Good morning everyone!
Although it is wet and cold thus morning, touch wood, the weathers seems more settled around the country. Fingers crossed its going to stay that way. The farm is actually starting to dry out, so we don’t mind some rain.
We are still getting quite cool mornings, so the soil temperature is still low – which equals little grass growth. C’mon Spring!!
Feeding Out: This is still a bit of a nightmare, with all bales having to be hand loaded and spread. I was hoping for some help, but the person didn’t turn up. Lol – maybe he heard how hard it was.
Fencing: We replaced the fencing around the house last week. There is one small piece to do on the other side of the drive, and then we are done. Yippee! We are also going to modify our cattle yards to make the handling of the cattle a little easier, and this will happen this week.
Willow trees starting to get planted: We have 14 tree bays prepared, and we have bought all the willow trees, ready for planting. Over the last two days we planted 6 – so in the next few days planting will be complete. The trees are quite tall (about 3 meters) but are very “spindly” – you can hardly see them. But Willows are like weeds. They do grow quickly, and once spring is here, and they have settled in, we should see some leaves and a more solid look. Good things take time!
Our son’s South American trip: I did had to laugh at the “present” he sent back. For those of you “real townies (lol) one of the tractors sold around the world is John Deere tractors – painted green with John Deer name/logo. This is the “South American” version:

Spotlight on: Yesterday I “steered” a few bull calves, with the intention to reduce our potential new bulls down to just two (keep one and sell one).
We had a bull calf we had hand reared, and he was doing so poorly we decided not to steer him straight away. His name is Woody, and is very well bred, but suffered not being brought up on a natural mum.
I went to steer him, but was surprised that he was actually too big to be “rubber ringed”. So my buddy is going to be kept as a bull calf and we might even keep him long term.

So it seemed appropriate that Woody is our spotlight animal this week. We are proud of you, Woody!
That’s all for this week.
We love feedback, if you have the chance!
