Our first blog post- Monday 15th December, 2025

Hi everyone – welcome to our new first blog post!

We will post once per week. and do hope that everyone who was previously on our mailing list will check in on our blog, and, hopefully, will still enjoy readying about what is happening on the farm, and the spotlight of one of our animals each week.

Our oldest son and family have arrived out from Germany, and will spend the next month here, before going back home.  We will have them here for about 10 days.  They will then head north to stay with family up there, and also enjoy their holiday home.  Once they retire they will come back to NZ to live.  That is still many years away, though.

Our second son and family arrive up from Wellington on Wednesday so we can all have an early Christmas here, which will be cool.  The image on our Facebook page was a photo of all the grandkids when they were very little, all looking out to the lake.  This photo is at least 10 years old  We will attempt to reproduce it all these years later.  We will post both images, once done.

Our youngest son lives in California, and with what is going on there currently, this is probably not the best time to leave the country.  They will come out next year.

ON THE FARM
The weather has changed quite quickly, and it has been very hot here.  We suspect the farm might dry out quite quickly, unless we get more rain.  We have some steers here which we will send off asap.

We have most of our girls now running with our two bulls – Tristan and Mount Vernon.  All our calving is now over for 2025 but we do have a few to calve in the first quarter of 2026.  We now want to tighten our calving schedule, so the girls who calve early in 2026 won’t be breed again until late 2026 – with the rest of the herd.

SPOTLIGHT ON
Today I would like to spotlight (again) my little buddy, Woody.  He lost his mum and I have been hand feeding him and another girl, Wanda.

He is such a cool little guy, who loves his rubs and being stroked.  He is actually really well bred, so we hope that in a year of so he might be able to help Tristan and Mt Vernon.  He is now well passed being hand fed, but we still give him and Wanda a big tub of “muesli” which they just love, and fight each other over.

You a very cool dude, Woody!

That’s all for this week.

We will keep posting weekly blog posts just so long as it is well read.  We do hope you keep coming back!
