Good morning everyone,
We hope you have all had a great weekend.
We are back on the farm, and our holiday “almost” feels like a long time ago. We say “almost” because there are many vivid, memories that won’t disappear anytime soon!
We had a lovely couple of days in Adelaide, before we came home. Keryn is a super cook, and a Maggie Beer (cook) fan. So we had one day to visit Maggie’s place, tour through the Barossa Valley, and visit “Hahndorf” – an original German settlement in the Adelaide Hills. This town has the most amazing history, and one of the “must see” towns when visiting Adelaide area. On the second day, we took the tram out to Glen Elg – a sea side suburb on the Adelaide coast. (The Public tram system in both Melbourne and Adelaide is fantastic and free in both inner cities). We left Adelaide with some wonderful memories.
On the farm
The fencers are a long way from finishing replacing all our fence lines, but the end is in sight. I can’t wait, some of the temporary gates are such a pain to move and keep the cattle contained. I am sure it will be worth it. One of their last jobs will be to put battens on. There will literally be thousands to put on, so I don’t envy them!
We are just starting to burn some of the piles of barberry hedging, now it has dried out enough. There are some big piles, and the fires look quite spectacular.

Rain, rain please come back: It has not rained for a long time, and we are becoming concerned. We are over stocked, and, ideally, want to have a warm winter, with good rainfall to get us through. So far the weather is not behaving!
Spotlight on:
Today we would like to spotlight a little guy, born 10 days early, whilst we were away.

His name is XAVIER. He will be registered, so he should have an X name (X is this year’s letter for Angus Australasia).
Xavier is such a laid back dude. Twice I could not find him as he was tucked away, sleeping away from the herd. This is his mother’s second calving, but she has still been quite anxious for him.
His mum is Trinity – and her genetic ranking is in the highest 1% of the breed. Her dad is our super bull, Tristan, so Xavier’s genetic number’s will be through the roof. We will keep him as a bull, and sell him when he is about 18 months old.
Welcome little buddy. We hope you have a very cool life here, at Lake Farm.
That’s all for this week. Our next blog post will be Monday 1st June.
As always – we love feedback. Please let us have your comments, if you have time.
Cheers
Colin and Keryn
